So which one is more effective and which one is best for you? The way Mmorpgs are played and the people playing them has changed drastically over the recent years, and with such a vast amount of players it is mostly up to the players themselves to decide what is best for them. I’m guessing most people will go for questing, as the rewards are more evident and the goals are clearer. But i’m actually not sure what i prefer myself, i started playing Mmorpgs long before Swtor, Rift, or even World of Warcraft. Back in the early days of Everquest you didn’t really have a choice, you could grind or you could grind. And you would have to do A LOT of it, days on end just to gain a few levels. Looking back the Everquest name isn’t really fitting as when you were max level and had acquired all the gear you wanted you probably wouldn’t have completed more than a handful of quests.

I today’s games people are a lot more impatient and want results in hours, not days or weeks or months even. I’m not saying this is a bad thing at all though, i probably wouldn’t have the time to play the Everquest of old and get anywhere if i were to play it today. But what that game has done to me is make me more resilient to the boredom of grinding. I rather quite enjoy it, and i think many old school players don’t really mind having to grind. It’s usually a great way to make gold, and can be as efficient as questing for leveling up. Quite a few of my alts have been leveled only by grinding rather than questing.

10: Buy it:

Loads of sites offer to sell you gold, but is it worth the risk? Mmorpg’s are expensive enough as it is with monthly payments and item malls. Chances are that your account will be suspended or even banned for breaking the rules of the game. It’s also hard to know who to trust as the gold selling busyness is filled with scams and bad deals.

9: Begging:

Frowned up in most mmorpg communities, this is some times a good way to make some starting capital. Works best if done in a funny or charming way to not get people annoyed. The most famous method is no doubt the naked female nightelf routine in world of warcraft where players stand around dancing as a female night elf and way for other players to hand over their gold.

8: PvP:

Some games will reward you with currency for participating in pvp. Star wars the old republic rewards players with quite alot of credits for fighting in battlegrounds and as you still can send your helpers out on missions this is a very viable way to make credits.

7: Server transfers:

Another way that actually involves having to pay real world money, this is a method that can make quite a lot of gold if you do it right. Using this is made millions back in the day in everquest. Simply make a character on a new server, go to the auction house or bazaar and start comparing prices with your own server, a lot of the time different servers will have different economies and stuff that goes for cheap on your server might be worth a lot on another. Fill your bags with stuff that will sell for more the other server and do a server transfer, then sell it all and say hello to your new richer life on a new server.

6:Powerleveling:

Players today want to level up fast, and powerleveling is the way to go if you wanna go really fast. Send out a message to your fellow players stating that you will powerlevel them for a fee and you are sure to make some gold. Plow them through some dungeons and you will rake in the money and they gain levels, with the added bonus of loot that you can sell.

5: Vendor reselling:

Rich high level players are lazy, take advantage of this by finding npc vendors that sell items that are sought after. Like pets in world of warcraft are sold by a lot of vendors but people don’t have time to find them and will 9 times out of 10 go to the auctions house and get them instead where you will sell your that you got of the vendors. In everquest vendors will actually sell you back items that other players have sold to them and some goodies are often to be found.

4: Gathering:

Like running around picking flowers and other random objects up from the ground? i do , and its one of the easiest ways to get gold. World of warcraft have numerous professions to chose that will involve gathering items that can be sold for a profits. Everquest 2 has a similar system plus collectibles that show as little “?” on the ground, some of them being worth over 100 platinum.

A Herbalism route makes it easier to make gold by doing Herbalism.

3: Tradeskills and professions:

Like to craft and make gear and items? Tradeskills are often a big part of Mmo’s and also one of the big money makers. Make equipment, potions, poisons and more and sell it for a profit.

2: Farming:

A personal favorite of mine. farming is the art of plowing through enemies and looting their stuff. Can often be combined with leveling, adding a bonus. Find an area with mobs that drop valuable loot, and kill them. Then sell it, couldnt be easier.

1: Buy low sell high:

The big money maker, reselling is what the pros do to make their dough. It takes a lot of research of your game/servers economy but once you know the tricks you will be racking in gold. Find items on the auction house that you know you can sell for more, but it and resell it. Using this i have made hundreds of thousands in world of warcraft, and millions in Everquest. The method can be applied to any game and is definitely the number 1 gold maker.

The zone was introduced in The Serpent’s Spine Expansion and provides content for players from level 15 to well over level 30. The zone is can be reached from the PoK by going through the Crescent Reach book or by exiting Crescent Reach to the East and is perfect for those who are finishing up leveling in Crescent Reach as XP there is only viable to around level 20.

The zone provides several camps and areas for hunting, but it can be wise to stick to the areas near zone in depending on your level/gear/mercenary until you feel comfortable with moving on.  The best area for leveling up though is in the eastern most part of the zone, a large field filled with wasps called eggtender drones and Stone Hive wasp-people.

I hit up the zone at level 19 with only my starting gear from the Gloomingdeep tutorial, a journeyman mercenary (gold members only), some damage shield potions, and some Paladin and Druid buffs from my guildmates.

I went to the Mucktail gnolls first but they didn’t prove much of a challenge and provided little more than decent experience, so i moved on to the bee field. The experience there turned out a lot better than the other areas and i was getting 10-20% experience per kill in the beginning, and with a journeyman mercenary you will plow through them. They respawn fairly fast as well.

After just a little over three hours i was already level 32 and ready to move on to the next area, that’s 13 levels in just a few short hours.  After finishing up you can just zone into Stone Hive just to the east of the fields which is also a hotzone and will take you to around level 42/43.

To main page of the timeline shows you a table of contents, with links to different content in different areas and tiers. Simply click on one of the links to one of the areas that are in your level range. To get most out of the guide, start using it at level 1 as some areas ties into each other. If you jump in at a higher level you might have to skip some quests. Each area will have a list of quests that are available to you, so just start making your way through them. When you’re done make your way to the next area, rinse and repeat. This way you will always know where to go next and what quests to and what quests to skip.

User friendliness 7/10

The soloing timeline isn’t really a guide per definition; it’s more a collection of quest series and information on when you should do them. So if you like having the guides always tell you what to do next, you might get a little overwhelmed in the beginning. Playing in windowed mode helps a lot as you don’t have to keep minimizing the game window. Dual monitors make it even easier as you can just keep the guide on the other monitor as you play.

Leveling Speed 8/10

Leveling in Everquest 2 is pretty slow, no matter what. Unless it’s double xp weekend, and you have your friends powerleveling you. But the soloing timeline is surprisingly fast, and if you don’t mind questing, you’ll hit max level in no time. Hitting up a few dungeons with a group once in a while helps a lot as well, especially when nearing end game.

Platinum Gain 9/10

You wouldn’t think that leveling with a solo questing guide would make you rich, but this one actually does. Up until level 50 you won’t be making much. But when you start hitting expansion areas, you’ll quickly see your platinum gain skyrocket. Especially when you hit Rise of Kunark and all the expansions after.  Doing all the quests in Kunark alone will earn you hundreds of platinum. So if your wise with you money you’re going to have a pile stacked up at level 90, ready to be spent on shiny new fabled gear and masters.

Overall 8/10

For leveling solo in EQ2 the soloing timeline is hands down the best you will find.  It’s a quick, easy way to level 90 that will even get you rich on the way there. Also since it’s a questing guide, and quests give Alternate Advancement point experience automatically even when the AA XP slider is at 0%, you will rack up a decent amount of AA points as well.  This is a big bonus as characters who level by grinding or are power leveled often struggle to attain AA’s when they hit level 90.
So if you are planning on getting your toon leveled up quickly I’d check out the EQ2Wikia, it beats all the other guides I’ve tried hands down. And don’t waste your money on pay for guides, they are almost never updated and won’t level you as quickly as this guide will.
